Wailea is Maui's most prestigious resort corridor, a carefully planned community carved into the dry lava fields south of Kihei. Its six white-sand beaches — Keawakapu, Mokapu, Ulua, Wailea, Polo, and Palauea — are consistently ranked among Hawaii's finest, offering calm, clear water and a backdrop of molten-red sunsets. The area is home to four championship golf courses, an upscale open-air shopping village, and a remarkable concentration of world-class dining. Makena, just south of Wailea, feels distinctly wilder. From Kahului Airport the drive to Wailea takes approximately 35–50 minutes. The shuttle heads south on Mokulele Highway before connecting to the Piilani Highway, which runs parallel to the coast. As you pass through Kihei you'll begin to see the cinder-cone silhouettes of Pu'u Ōla'i and the dramatic lava-rock shoreline that marks the beginning of Wailea. Grand Wailea is the furthest north of the major resorts; Four Seasons and Makena Beach & Golf Resort add another 5–10 minutes south.
