Airport Shuttle to Pukalani & Upcountry Maui

VIP Trans Maui offers shared shuttle service from Kahului Airport (OGG) to Pukalani, Kula, and all of Maui's Upcountry region. Whether you're visiting family, renting a vacation home on the slopes of Haleakalā, or staying at a bed-and-breakfast in the cool green hills above the coast, we'll get you there comfortably — at a flat rate with no surprises.

Pukalani and Kula occupy the mid-elevation slopes of Haleakalā, Maui's massive dormant volcano, at elevations ranging from roughly 1,000 to 3,500 feet. The climate here is dramatically different from the beach resorts below — cooler, greener, and often wrapped in low cloud by afternoon. Pukalani is a working local community with a small shopping center, golf course, and easy access to the Haleakalā Highway. Kula, a few miles further up the mountain, is known for its flower farms, the Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm, Kula Botanical Garden, and some of Maui's best-regarded small restaurants. The famous Surfing Goat Dairy and O'o Farm, a working coffee and culinary farm, are also based here. On clear mornings, the views from Kula across the isthmus and both coastlines of Maui are breathtaking — you can often see the Big Island 30 miles to the southeast.

From Kahului Airport the drive to Pukalani takes approximately 20–30 minutes — one of the shorter shuttle routes despite the elevation gain. The route heads south and east from the airport on the Haleakalā Highway (Hwy 37), climbing steadily through open ranchland and small communities. Kula is another 5–15 minutes beyond Pukalani depending on your specific destination. Note that certain remote Kula addresses (particularly those above 3,000 feet or on unpaved roads) require a minimum of 4 passengers due to accessibility and vehicle requirements.

Traveler Tips

Tips for Traveling to Pukalani / Kula

1

If you're planning to visit Haleakalā National Park for sunrise, the park requires advance reservations — book through recreation.gov well before your trip. The summit is roughly 40 minutes from Kula.

2

Mornings in Kula are often clear and sunny; clouds tend to roll in by midday. Plan outdoor activities for the earlier part of the day.

3

Kula Lodge restaurant is a local landmark for breakfast — worth a visit on your first morning before the clouds arrive.

4

Pack layers — Upcountry Maui evenings can drop into the low 50s°F (10–12°C) year-round, which feels dramatically cold after a beach vacation.

Common Questions

Pukalani / Kula Shuttle FAQ

How far is Pukalani from the airport?
Approximately 20–30 minutes — one of the shorter drives from OGG. Kula adds another 5–15 minutes depending on your exact address.
Do you service private residences in Kula?
Yes. We service private residences and vacation rentals throughout Kula and Upcountry Maui. Note that certain remote addresses above 3,000 feet require a minimum of 4 passengers — these are marked in our booking system.
Why is there a minimum passenger requirement for some Upcountry addresses?
Remote and high-elevation addresses in Kula require specialized vehicles or significantly longer detours. The minimum passenger requirement allows us to cover operating costs while keeping fares affordable for the group.
Is Upcountry Maui worth the stay compared to the beach areas?
Absolutely — Upcountry offers a completely different side of Maui. Cooler weather, stunning views, farm-to-table food, lavender farms, and easy access to Haleakalā National Park make it a favorite for return visitors looking for something beyond the beach.
Can I book online for Upcountry destinations?
Yes — Pukalani and Kula are fully available in our online booking system. Select your destination, enter your address, and save $7 by booking online instead of calling.
