Napili Bay is one of Maui's most beloved small bays — a nearly perfect crescent of calm, reef-protected water that's ideal for swimming and snorkeling year-round. Sea turtles are common here, gliding lazily along the reef edge within a few feet of the shore. The bay is flanked by a mix of intimate, plantation-style condo complexes that have changed little since the 1960s and 70s, giving Napili a retro old-Hawaii character that many long-time visitors cherish. Kapalua, just a mile or two up the coast, is a different world. The Ritz-Carlton dominates the ridge above the ocean, and the Kapalua Resort encompasses two championship golf courses — the Plantation Course (home to the PGA Tour's Sentry Tournament of Champions every January) and the Bay Course. The Kapalua Coastal Trail links several stunning cliff-top beaches and is one of the best short hikes on West Maui.

Napili and Kapalua sit at the far northwestern tip of Maui — approximately 55–70 minutes from Kahului Airport. The route follows Honoapiilani Highway along the North Shore pali cliffs, passing through Lahaina, then north through Honokowai and Kahana before the road begins to climb toward Kapalua. The Ritz-Carlton entrance is near the top of this rise, with sweeping views back down the coast toward Ka'anapali. Napili's condo complexes are clustered just below the ridge, most within a short walk of the bay.
